Breaking in the Blog!

Hello Group! I am Bryn and I am 26 years old. Intro to E-Commerce is my 9th course towards an MS in Business Continuity, Security and Risk Management and this is my first experience with blogging! I have always read blogs but have never thought about creating one of my own. It is funny that blogging is part of this course since I have purposely distanced myself from social media/networking during my time as a grad student because it tends to be a tough distraction while I am trying to study online! I feel I will enjoy this assignment and it will be a much more creative way for us to get to know each other and experience a side of social networking that I haven't participated in yet.

I currently live in Connecticut with 4 little hermit crab roomies named Big Dude, Little Dude, Gucci and Versace. Here is a picture of Gucci since he is the least camera shy, however he no longer looks like a soccer ball (the painted shells they come in at the pet store use toxic paint so when they switch shells I steal them out and take the paint off!):

I work at a local amusement and water park as Safety, Training and Risk Manager. It is a very crazy and tiring but fun job, and I cannot complain since I get to be out in the sun all summer and go down a water slide if it is too hot out!

I did my undergrad at Roger Williams University and received a BA in Art and Architectural History. Needless to say I decided to go a very different route with my graduate degree since I felt a more business oriented background would be beneficial and I began to work in the risk management area which I have found interesting. Art has always been a passion and hobby of mine so it is still an area I would love to get back into someday.

In my free time I love to paint, bike and run. I ran my first half marathon last year and I am training for my second again this year. The picture included is a before shot; I was way too tired and terrible looking for an after shot! I love to cook (and of course eat) just about anything. I try to travel as much as I can as well though unfortunately I haven't been able to work it into my schedule in a while. Two places I would love to visit again are Italy and India which I used to influence my blog design a little. I also really enjoy sleeping but unfortunately we all know as working professionals and grad students that doesn't happen very often!

I am looking forward to the next 7 weeks and enjoying this blogging experience with everyone!

  1. Hi Bryn,

I love your background the colors are so lively and inviting. I grew up in CT and moved to MA a few years ago. What types of food do you enjoy? I got my AS degree in baking & pastry and my BS in foodservice management. You could say I am a bit of a foodie. I am vegetarian so is a lot of Indian foods that I can enjoy. It would be great to see some photos of your hermit crabs.

    1. Hi Kate! Thanks for commenting on my blog! I figured out how to do pictures now so I took your suggestion and put one up of one of the crabbies! You have such interesting previous degrees, they must have been fun to study since I am sure there was a lot of hands on practice involved. I also would consider myself a bit of a foodie and I am allergic to anything involving milk or dairy so that has actually helped my love for cooking since I have to be very creative when trying to cook some things without it. My favorite meals to make tend to be anything Italian or Mexican, can't go wrong with tacos! I'd love to share some recipes or food suggestions sometime!

  2. Bryn,

Congratulations on all that you have accomplished thus far. Your post made me feel sunny with your use of the colors and design. Are you looking forward to the snow that is coming your way? I used to live in Willimantic, CT and I remember the cold winters. On your blog, I would add some more pics of some of your hobbies. Do you have any pics from your marathon? I did my Bachelors and first Masters in a completely different area, so I know what you mean. Good luck!

    1. Hi Allison! Thanks for your blog comments and suggestions! I found a picture from the half marathon that didn't show how I was really feeling during the run and put it up and it does add more substance to the page! And it is funny to say but I actually am looking forward to a little snow since it hasn't really felt like winter. Though if it is like October and I lose power for 6 days again it is unwelcome! Good luck to you in the course too and I look forward to blogging more!

  3. Hi Bryn!
I love the bright colors in the background. How did you get all the tranparency? I am having troubles getting the right selections. Congratulations on this being the 9th course. You are so close to finishing. I really like the font you used for your post. Which style is that? I would recomend addidng more pictures or a post about your marathon run and training would be very intereesting to see.

    1. Hi Lisa! Thanks for visiting my blog! To make the background transparent I chose the first of the travel templates section and then was able to go into the customize area and to background and chose another picture to put in instead of the default one but it still kept the page format with the transparency. There is so much stuff to do to the blog I almost didn't know where to begin and actually had been changing it quite a bit since yesterday! The font I have is "Neucha", it is kind of fun and casual which I like. And I love your suggestion of a post on training for the run; since I am in the beginning of training (the race is in October) it would be fun to create a lasting memory of it! Looking forward to blogging more with you and seeing all of our pages develop!

  4. Hi Bryna,

Stopping by to say hello. One does get that relax and laid back felling from you page. The color is most vibrant and say volume of who you are. So does the background image represent a place you recently visited?

Well, I am envious of you, this being your 9th class and all (kidding), it must feel great to know you are a few class away from graduating; congrats!

Looking forward to getting to know you through this medium.

    Ciao!

  5. Hi Bryn,

Your blog is the real fancy travel website. I like that everything is so balanced here. Thanks for sharing with us your Indian pictures. They are so colorful. The only slight suggestion is to make comments font size a little bit bigger. Do you like Indian movies or music? You can add some gadgets with them too.

  6. Good morning Bryn,

It is nice meeting you! I see that our locations are pretty close to each other. I live in New York. It is snowing a lot there today too right?

I see that you have worked a lot with you blog and you did a good job making this very interesting. However, for some reason, some of the gadgets being broken. I think it might be just this moment though.

Looking forward to working with you! :)

  7. Hello Bryn,

love the name of your hermit crabs especially Gucci. overall very interesting blog page and cool pictures.
One suggestions i would have is maybe have some kind of tabs because it seems like i have to scroll down and up all the time to navigate though the page. otherwise everything looks great.

  9. Hi Bryn!

I like the design and overall feel of your blog. The type font you use in your intro at the type right part of the blog works well with your design.

When I was looking at your blog I saw on the right side of your screen there was all this computer jarble. I'm not sure why it's there or what it's supposed to be, but it says type error at the top of it.

The only suggestion I have for your blog is adding another page. Maybe about your passion for painting, or your interest in art history.

Good job on designing your blog!

    Eli

  10. Hi Byrn,

Was just checking back to view your blog and noticed that you have added a few more pictures. Nicely done, I agree with Eli regarding creating a tab to show your love of Art. Nice job with the addition of the gadgets.
